About
Make a Splash is a groundbreaking programme delivered by Total Swimming as part of the Mayor of London's PlaySport London programme. This is designed to ensure a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the aim of ensuring Londoners benefit from inspirational projects that significantly increase participation in sport and physical activity, as well as using sport to tackle social issues.
The Make a Splash initiative, which is delivered in conjunction with the Variety Club; MWB Business Exchange; London Swimming; and the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), takes mobile 12 metre x 6 metre steel tank swimming pools into some of the capital's most deprived and disadvantaged areas. This provides an innovative and cost effective solution for delivering swimming in areas of need, where there is a lack of access to facilities. Each Make a Splash project creates opportunities for delivering school swimming programmes and also swimming lessons/activities for the local community.
During its first year of operation (2009 - 2010), the Make a Splash programmes was successful in delivering 6 temporary pools in 'aquatically deprived' areas of London, reaching out to in excess of 5,000 individuals. From 2011 to 2013, a further 12 Make a Splash projects will be delivered by Total Swimming, providing more opportunities for the people of London to experience this unique swimming programme.
So far in 2011, Make a Splash has visited the boroughs of Harrow and Haringey, and we are curently looking for further locations across London for the remainder of the programme. If you are interested in Make a Splash coming to your area, please click here and fill out a brief enquiry form.
In the rest of England, Total Swimming uses the same pool technology to deliver its 'Pools 4 Schools' programme. If you would like further information or to suggest your school, please click here.
