Pupils make waves at Greenwood Primary
Delighted pupils had a splashing time in their temporary swimming pool when they were visited by the mayor of London this week.
The youngsters from Greenwood Primary School, in Wood End Way, Northolt, showed off their techniques to Boris Johnson who was joined by his sport’s commissioner Kate Hoey and Enigma and Doom from the hit endurance show Gladiators.
The pool was introduced at the beginning of the autumn term and is designed to help people from the surrounding area learn to swim in time for the opening of the new Northolt Leisure Centre at the end of January.
It will replace Northolt Swimarama, in Eastcote Lane, which has been closed since October 2007.
The learner pool, based at Greenwood Primary School, introduced as part of the London mayor’s Make A Splash Scheme, will be open until December 19.
Speaking after the mayor of London’s visit last Thursday (22) Greenwood Primary’s headteacher Jim Britzman, said: “The children have loved having the pool here. “Some go swimming regularly, but for many it’s been their first time and they have overcome any fears and grown in confidence.
“The feedback from parents has been terrific and they’ve said they will continue to go swimming, which coincides beautifully with the opening of Northolt Leisure Centre.”
